Terra Spirits & Liqueurs turned to Activ8 Solar Energies with the intention of designing and installing a Solar PV system to help meet their electricity demands.
Owned by the McKevitt family, Terra is the largest family-owned cream liqueur producer in Ireland and one of the longest established in the world with its roots going back to the very creation of the product category back in 1970’s. Along with that, they handle an array of alcoholic beverages for their customers who include some of the most prestigious retailers and International Drinks companies worldwide. In line with their business goals, Terras main operating hours are aligned alongside general daytime hours from Monday to Friday, making them an ideal candidate for installing a solar PV system and maximising the efficiency of the system in line with their business needs.
Here is a look at the project from start to finish, from the skies…
Installation – Before Panels
The installation took less than two weeks from start to finish.
Health and safety are important to Terra Ltd as well as flexibility. With the ability to work around the hours that suited Terra Ltd, Activ8 Solar Energies were able to provide the flexibility needed so as to make sure that the installation and connections at all stages, never effected the performance and production within Terra Ltd.
Installation – Panels
Installed & Commissioned
With installation finished on time, Terra Ltd were enjoying the benefits of solar PV almost immediately. In a comprehensive post-install interview, Managing Director Shaun McKevitt also mentioned the specifically built system that allowed the excess electricity generated at weekends by the system to be diverted towards the heat pump system previously installed by the company.
Using and maximising the production of the PV system over the weekend hours when working line production is down was an added bonus for the company.
Terra Ltd approached the project with their Corporate Social Responsibility plan front and centre. They are already an industry leader in their own field, but with this installation, they are also showing that they are willing to lead the drive for renewable energy in Irish business!
It was a pleasure working with Terra and we’re looking forward to helping them monitor the system’s production over the next 25-30 years and beyond.
