Ireland has officially reached 1 gigawatt (GW) of rooftop solar – a major milestone in the country’s clean energy transition. But behind that headline figure is a more powerful story about delivery, scale and impact.
Activ8 has installed approximately 180 MW of that total – accounting for 18% of all rooftop solar capacity in Ireland today.
This means that nearly one in every five units of rooftop solar power being generated across Irish homes, farms and businesses has been delivered by Activ8. It’s a clear reflection of the role we’ve played in bringing solar into the mainstream and helping thousands of customers take control of their energy.
With more than 170,000 systems now installed nationwide, rooftop solar has rapidly become one of Ireland’s most practical and popular renewable energy solutions. At Activ8, we’ve been at the forefront of that growth – scaling our operations to meet demand while maintaining a consistent focus on quality, performance and customer experience.

Gary Connolly, Chief Commercial Officer at Activ8, said:
“Reaching 1 GW of rooftop solar is a huge moment for Ireland – but what really stands out for us is that Activ8 has delivered 18% of that capacity. That’s 180 MW of clean energy installed across homes and businesses nationwide. It highlights both the scale of demand and the trust customers place in us to deliver reliable, high-performing solar systems.”
This contribution has been built over years of sustained growth, driven by increasing awareness of solar’s financial and environmental benefits, alongside strong government support such as the SEAI solar PV grant.
Approximately 50,000 new solar installations are now being completed each year in Ireland, according to ESB Networks. Activ8 has played a significant role in enabling that pace – helping customers navigate the grant process, design the right system for their needs and maximise long-term savings.

The 180 MW installed by Activ8 isn’t just a number – it represents thousands of individual projects delivered across communities nationwide, from family homes and farms to SMEs and large commercial sites. Each installation contributes to lower energy bills, reduced carbon emissions and greater energy independence.
As Ireland continues towards its target of 8 GW of solar by 2030, Activ8 remains focused on scaling its impact even further – building on the strong foundation that has already seen us deliver nearly a fifth of the country’s rooftop solar capacity.
Reaching 1 GW is a national achievement. Delivering 18% of it is Activ8’s.
