About the Project

Activ8 Solar Energies has commenced work on a landmark 6 MWp rooftop solar installation at Mannok’s manufacturing facilities in Co. Cavan. Once completed, the project will become Ireland’s largest rooftop solar installation, transforming 3.88 hectares of rooftop space into a renewable energy asset.

The installation will comprise 9,678 PV modules, enabling Mannok to generate a significant portion of its electricity requirements onsite. Delivered in partnership with SSE Airtricity through a fully funded Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), the project allows Mannok to access renewable electricity without the need for upfront capital investment.

The development represents a significant step towards Mannok’s sustainability objectives, supporting its decarbonisation strategy while helping to manage energy costs and strengthen the resilience of its manufacturing operations.

Project Management

Activ8 Solar Energies is delivering the project in partnership with SSE Airtricity through a fully funded Power Purchase Agreement. Under this arrangement, Activ8 and SSE Airtricity fund, install and maintain the solar PV system, while Mannok purchases the electricity generated onsite at an agreed reduced rate for the duration of the agreement.

This approach enables Mannok to benefit from large-scale renewable energy generation without the initial capital expenditure typically associated with a project of this size. The installation also supports Mannok’s 2030 Vision Sustainability Strategy and its long-term commitment to decarbonisation, with a goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

The Stats

System Output

The Mannok solar installation will deliver 6 MWp of renewable electricity generation through 9,678 rooftop PV modules. Once operational, the system is expected to avoid an estimated 792 tonnes of carbon emissions annually while helping Mannok reduce energy costs and progress towards its long-term sustainability goals.

Mannok could save around €1,215,000 per year on electricity costs by using this solar system instead of purchasing electricity from the grid.

€1,215,000

This system generates around 4,862,179 kWh/yr
of electricity annually.

4,862,179 kWh/yr

By using this system Mannok can reduce emissions by approximately 792 tonnes (or 792,000 kg/yr of CO2 per year.

792 Tonnes

The estimated yearly output of this system is equivalent to the energy needed to power around 1,300 homes in Ireland for a year.

1,300 Homes

This system has a carbon impact equivalent to planting around 29,406 mature trees per year.
